Who drinks coffee/tea first thing in the morning? This story is a cautionary tale related to health and energy levels.
Oh boy… I have a story for you about how improper use of those has given me 10 years of struggle.
In order to deal with the overwhelming amount of work needed to build a successful business we turn into boosters in form of caffeine which is present in coffee, tea and chocolate. We all know the benefits of caffeine which helps with alertness and dopamine regulation; the neuromodulatory molecule responsible for our motivation.
I turned to coffee drinking at 28 years old, and as the amount of work-related stress accumulated I was on the search for any bit of extra energy. I would wake in the morning and first thing to get on good performance levels I would drink strong tea or coffee. This went on for a while and with time I needed another drink mid-day and then one in the afternoon. Then evening came and I would crash, not able to stay up let alone do any work. With years passing I would start crashing much earlier and after each afternoon meal.
Accidentally, I stumbled upon a solution to the issue by watching Dr. Andrew Huberman. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olaVegee-Qw&t)
It turns out that we need to naturally clear adenosine from our body which happens roughly after 1,5h from waking up, ideally exposing ourselves to the sun in the first part of the day.
My energy levels throughout the day are on the level from when I was a young engineer and the amount of work I can do is not anymore about how much of it there is but how long is the day.
I’m including the link to the video which enlightened me and further explains how to drink coffee to your advantage.
I’m also curious to hear about your life hacks to manage energy levels.
