Are you and your organization excited about the advent of the AI wars? But are you ready to face obstacles and potential pitfalls in this emerging technological battlefield?
The world of artificial intelligence (AI) has just witnessed its breakthrough moment, and the hype surrounding it has reached astronomical levels. It’s no exaggeration to say that this could potentially be a technological advancement with a greater impact than even the creation of the Internet itself.
As we look back on the history of the Internet, we see that its initial use was limited to academia and individuals. It was only later that enterprises started to widely adopt it for their sales channels and operations. This time around, today’s decision-makers cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes of the past by being slow to adopt new technologies. In fact, many of them are already plotting their moves to use AI in order to achieve an increase in sales, and cost reduction, and ultimately score a decisive victory over their competitors.
To achieve this goal, enterprises will need to fuse their data with AI in a robust and responsible way. However, this will not be an easy task. We can foresee that cloud providers like AWS, Azure and Google will offer AI SaaS and the day is coming fast. While many businesses are still struggling with understaffing and underfunding of their regular data projects.
In fact, a quick glance at LinkedIn’s sales navigator shows an alarming 10-to-1 ratio of software engineers to data engineers. Moreover, many IT leaders are having difficulty in obtaining and justifying the necessary budgets to fund data projects due to business leaders who are more reactive than proactive.
The harsh reality is that those who are unprepared for the AI-propelled wars to come may end up as nothing more than mere corpses on the battlefield. As Dwight D. Eisenhower once famously said, “You will not find it difficult to prove that battles, campaigns, and even wars have been won or lost primarily because of logistics.” In this context, a data platform with a robust data lake at its core is the equivalent of wartime logistics, and both are incredibly difficult to get right.
So, are you excited about the AI revolution that is set to transform the business world, or are you anxious about the challenges that lie ahead? The time has come to share your thoughts, feelings, and fears on this topic.
In my next article, I will explain what a data lake is and it’s main business benefits.
